We had the first snow of the winter season in Calgary last week and I started dreading the winter again. Temperatures can drop to as low as -30 degrees Celsius, or -22 degrees Fahrenheit, not to mention the chilly, biting winds that almost sweep you, literally, off your feet. One of the early explorers in Canada actually said that one cannot claim to have really lived in the country without having experienced the winter, which could last for up to six months. Everyone who has heard about life in Canada has most probably heard about the dreadful winter.❆❆❆
Now it’s time for multiple layers of clothing, starting with thermal pants, then thermal tops, then layer again with two other tops and a pair of pants- stress unlimited. Give me the opportunity and I will take a whole year of spring. Alas, I don’t have a choice in the matter. 😓
This reminds me of a story I heard about a certain young lady. It was winter, and she decided to go out in a particular nice outfit, even though it wasn’t suitable for the harsh weather. At this time, she had no car and was using the public transit system, Calgary Transit, so she had to wait at the bus stop for the bus. However it was freezing cold outside and she wasn’t layered up like everyone else around. An elderly woman saw her at the bus stop and called out to her, saying, “You really look beautiful in this outfit, but don’t you think health comes before beauty?” I thought that was funny.
Anyway, as the weather changes, please layer up and remember: HEALTH COMES BEFORE BEAUTY.
Please share your cold weather stories.
Thanks.
